.sito
Is .sito a real TLD? Who’s applying to run it?
Nobody has applied for .sito in its own right, as of 7 October 2026. Aruba named .sito as the backup string of its .ciao application.
A niche TLD for italian-speaking small businesses, freelancers and hobbyists who buy a website and a name together from a hosting provider, plus a few "il mio .sito"-style descriptive registrations.

The nearest 2012 strings, and how many names each holds today
The closest 2012 string, .сайт, held 1,611 names, June 2026. .site held 2,103,869; .موقع held 80. Chosen by AI from every string in the 2012 round, without being told what happened to any of them.
The identical bet: the local-language word for "website" sold as a whole language market's generic container for any web presence, wagering that speakers will prefer their own word for "site" over the English one.
Same kind of string doing the same job — the maximally generic "this is a web presence" noun with no category, industry, or community filter, open to any registrant who simply needs a place to put a site.
Also a one-language generic for "website" betting on linguistic ownership of the web-presence category, though its script confines it to a single market where an ASCII Romance string leaks into broader use.

What a .sito domain is
.sito is not a TLD yet. It is a string on our record of the ICANN 2026 new gTLD round, in our AI & tech category. Nobody has applied for .sito in its own right. It is named on ICANN’s list as part of an application for another string.
Is the .sito domain extension real yet?
.sito is not yet a domain extension you can register: nothing resolves under it, and no registrar sells names in it. Nobody has applied for it on the public record; the ICANN 2026 new gTLD round is the process that would decide whether it becomes one.
When can you buy a .sito domain?
You can’t yet. A .sito name can only be registered once the string is delegated (added to the DNS root) and its registry opens. Last round's closest parallel to .sito was .сайт, delegated on 23 October 2013.
Is .sito a real TLD?
Not yet. .sito is not in the DNS root, so nothing resolves under it. It’s here because ICANN’s list names .sito as part of an application for another string. Every entry on this page links to its source.

“Aruba S.p.A., which operates the .cloud top level domain, is expanding its domain portfolio. The company told Domain Name Wire that it applied for 39 top level domains in this year's new TLD round. That number includes replacement strings. [...] The company applied for the following strings as primary or replacement: aid, all, ask, beta, bit, bnb, cart, ciao, daily, demo, easy, fix, gaming, gen, genius, gym, happy, hello, hola, human, kit, lab, mars, max, moon, omg, pec, pop, rem, roma, sign, sito, super, tag, tex, vps, yes, zen, zzz”Domain Name Wire (Andrew Allemann), quoting Aruba S.p.A.
- Band chosen: 30-49 (usable but limited), at its floor. "Sito" is the everyday Italian word for a website, so the string reads naturally to its audience and lends itself to bundled sale alongside hosting, which is the one plausible route to volume; the applicant on record is an Italian web-presence and hosting company, which makes channel distribution more likely than for a stand-alone registry (adoption inference only, not demand evidence). By analogy (flagged), English-language generics meaning "website" such as .site and .website have registered at volume mostly on promotional pricing, carry a weak brand signal, and have a thin aftermarket; a single-language equivalent shrinks that pool further, and other Italian-language 2012-round strings (.casa, .moda, by analogy) saw modest adoption rather than becoming identities Italian companies lead with. It is not in the 50-69 band because there is no scenario in the next 5 years where a serious Italian project prefers .sito over .it or .com as its primary identity; it is not in the 10-29 band because, unlike a joke or vanity string, it has a genuine descriptive use and a realistic bundled-registration path. Main market uncertainty: whether Italian registrants treat a ".sito" address as a legitimate web identity at all, or purely as a throwaway hosting freebie that renews poorly.
