.doubao
Is .doubao a real TLD? Who’s applying to run it?
.doubao is not contested. One application for it is on ICANN’s Reveal Day list, as of 7 October 2026. It is ByteDance.
A brand-only TLD for one company's AI assistant: useful to its owner, but nobody else can buy an address on it.
the applicant itself and its product teams, using the string for its AI assistant's own sites, app links and short URLs; no outside buyers
The 2012 applications making the most similar bet. Chosen by AI from every string in that round, without being told what happened to any of them.
Same bet as .doubao: a single Chinese tech parent putting a consumer product's own coined, pinyin-transliterated name on the TLD, where the string means nothing to a Latin-script reader and all its equity comes from the app's user base at home.
Also a mass-market Chinese internet service's own product brand rather than the corporate name, betting that an app people already open daily can carry its identity in the TLD itself, with no generic or descriptive fallback value if the app fades.
Same job - a standalone consumer software product's coined brand, owned by one company and worth only what the product is worth - but it was a Latin-native invented word with global name recognition rather than a transliterated home-market app name.
What a .doubao domain is
.doubao is not a TLD yet. It is a string on our record of the ICANN 2026 new gTLD round, filed under Brand. One application for it is on ICANN’s Reveal Day list.
Is the .doubao domain extension real yet?
.doubao is not yet a domain extension you can register: nothing resolves under it, and no registrar sells names in it. It is a string applicants have put forward in the ICANN 2026 new gTLD round, the process that decides whether it becomes one.
When can you buy a .doubao domain?
You can’t yet. ICANN publishes every applied-for string on Reveal Day, 7 October 2026 at 18:00 UTC. A .doubao name can only be registered after that, once the string is delegated and its registry opens. Last round's closest parallel to .doubao was .taobao, delegated on 21 January 2016.
Is .doubao a real TLD?
Not yet. .doubao is not in the DNS root, so nothing resolves under it. It’s here because .doubao is on ICANN’s Reveal Day list of applied-for strings. Every entry on this page links to its source.

- The verified record shows a single confirmed application from Beijing Zitiao Network Technology Co., Ltd. with no category tag; from my own knowledge, 'Doubao' is the name of a consumer AI assistant product, so this reads as a brand TLD rather than a generic string. Band chosen: 10-29 (vanity/narrow). It is not in the 30-49 band because a brand TLD has no third-party registrations at volume, no price-driven demand and no aftermarket at all; addresses are not for sale to anyone but the operator. It is not in the 1-9 band because the string does have a realistic single user with plausible end-use utility: by analogy (flagged) with brand TLDs from the prior round that were put to work for product links and regional sites, a widely used consumer AI app could run its primary web and deep-link identity on its own TLD, which is a genuine if captive use. Also by analogy, a large share of prior-round brand TLDs were held defensively and lightly used or later retired, so the expected-value case is modest. Main market uncertainty: whether the operator moves public product surfaces onto .doubao within five years or keeps it as a defensive registration; the string's value is almost entirely a function of that choice, since there is no external market to fall back on.
